The closest we have come Manchester geo-ultimate occurred, yesterday, when a few Chevron Action Flash players mixed it up with Motion to compete in the Northern Winter Leagues. I think God could have gifted the Manchester ultimate geeks with a bit more imagination; the teams were entered under ‘Fog Lane Dynamos’ and ‘South Manchester Allstars’. Random word generators are the usual approach to frisbee team names but, alas, it seems someone tried another approach. I think it was by the second game, as my brain began to thaw, that realised I was playing for the ‘Fog Lane Dynamos’.
Both of the semi-finals saw a Manchester team lose to a Leeds team in sudden death, which led to an all Leeds final and an all Manchester 3rd - 4th playoff. This last game of a cold day was played in a slight breeze and on softening ground, a contrast to the 9am dead calm and perma-frost like conditions. Fog Lane out ran the misleadingly named Allstars to a 12-6 victory.
The day was topped off by a great evening, with great company, eating nice food and watching a film about jury corruption.
