‘No Logo’ (Naomi Klein) - I turned over the front page and started reading this title that I have hoping to get into for ages, it was possibly a couple of years ago now that I first tried to get my hands on a copy. I have read just the introduction so far as I sat on the bus on my way to the club tonight, and so far it is doing good.
“…anticorporatism is the brand of politics capturing the imagination of the next generation of troublemakers and s***disturbers, and we need only look to the student radicals of the 1960s and the ID warriors of the eighties and nineties to see the transformative impact such a shift can have.”
Back to the everyday… the World DMC mixing champion ‘Plus One’ took to the stage tonight and entertained the many students with his mixing and scratching skills on the decks. Decks which he managed to knock off balance, which to those of us not too hot on the trendiest hobby around means that the records started jumping and so his show wasn’t as impressive as he would have liked. But we aren’t all experts nor pedantic fanatics, so as we stood behind the bar doing Tom Cruise impressions the night passed by swiftly thanks to the great atmosphere there tonight. Will showed up to show off… his crew turned up on the guest list and they got down to some breaking on the dance floor (minus the lino though) and then we also find out that Will is also pretty darn hot at cocktail flair so it wasn’t long until he was teaching us a couple more bar tricks. Now you may think that we do all the bar tricks to get more tips… well it doesn’t work like that. People just don’t like tipping. So we flair for fun and have our ears attentive to some of the best sayings to be said next to bar tops… “keep the change” and “have one yourself”. Now practice that a couple of times in front of the mirror and remember that next time you walk into our bar.
Bono makes good music and also has a really convicting message. For those who are doing the ‘is he or isn’t he debate’ i’m on the ‘he is’ side - so much so that I have, we have actually used U2’s music in worship sessions.
