Back in the Game

Just a quick post as I’m supposed to be on my way to a WideAwake, a hiphop club night that my friends are putting on in Manchester… Should be fun. My jaw is feeling a lot better, especially since a painful cracking moment while brushing my teeth the other day. My self-esteem has U-turned and is back on track thanks to my friend and landlord becoming my boss. Yes, I have a job… Of sorts. I’m doing some freelance handyman work for him, salvaging a coupe of properties. Just short term stuff but will see through. Amazing what positive effect a days hard work can do. May get a crappy bar job when that finishes, after all, so I don’t have to put up with the soul destroying Job Seekers Allowance. During that time I’ll be looking for better work and carry on putting some articles together.

Think some interesting spiritual stuff is going on in my life at the moment but haven’t figured it out quite yet. Oh, and I’ve been trying to remember the clip in GhostDog when the ice cream dude talks in French, his only language, about bears. Anyone remember that and can fill me in?

Soul Destroyer

Tomorrow morning I have an interview at the JobCentrePlus to see if I am entitled to benefit and make a plan to get me back into work. I have been filling out forms and trudging around trying to find hope. I don’t want to feed the rat race and I don’t want to run it. I have had a couple of ideas fall through already and, yes, I could easily get another bar job but the pay is crap and there’s no job satisfaction. I am considering some voluntary stuff with kids to give me some experience for jobs that i may like to go into while I hunt for work or while I take on a short term ‘for the sake of something to do’ job.

In the meantime my landlord has offered me some handyman work on some of his property that he is doing up and I am hoping to turn some drafts into articles. Also I am in the process, thanks to the boys in Sevilla, of moving my weblog over to a new server. Means learning some new stuff and ironing out more creases. The benefits being that it will be ad-free and there will be more freedom eg: uploading images.

So there will be an change of URL coming soon.

Injury or Whingury?

Good old Ultimate Frisbee. I felt ill and faint all of a sudden as I was sitting on the bus today. I put 2 and 2 together and just like back at school the result was an anti-climax. I hadn’t eaten since saturday lunch. Actually I had had a some soup and bread on sunday evening, but it doesn’t add up to much when the time spent had been hours of exertion. I don’t recommend running around all day in the cold and going without food, especially when the accidental fast lasts over 50hours.

I’m getting to it. It was early sunday morning and I was getting rid of a bad mood that was trying to make itself at home due to me practicalities meaning that I could have been in bed for a couple more hours rather than standing around with numb toes listening to stressed out frisbee dorks (remember that dork is classed below geek in context of cool). Eventually Northern Winter League 1 got under way. Having watched us lose the first few points I decided I would get my arse on to the pitch. Laid-out; caught it in my left. Forward pass to a receiver; he dropped. Back on D. My mark attempts, clumsily, to huck threw my force. The disc went up but a foul was called as his throw, though reaching the ‘zone, was only spectacular in the sense that it gave me a flooring blow to the jaw by his elbow that followed through. Joy. My first point on pitch and i had to take an injury sub. No worries, I was back on after 5-10mins to see us pull back from an early 4-0 deficit to win the game. The day continued with us only facing one tough game. That game against fusion was our only defeat leaving us finishing 7th from a seeding of 10th. Next time a better seeding may give us better games and a better chance.

I haven’t been eating because that blow has left me unable to chew. I’ve just bought a load of tinned soup, I cannot afford the nice carton stuff. Good old Ultimate, indeed.
