New Abode

Tonight will be the last night in the house that I have put up with over the last 9 months. The house was not nice at all and never did it feel like home. I am still looking or work, which means paying rent will be a bit tight, but Im sure it will all work out fine. I’ll be moving five minutes down the road; out of Rusholme and back into Moss Side. Moving to live with a friend in a lovely little house; it is like stepping into another world when you enter from the Moss Side street. I’m looking forward to it.

U2: The morning after.

What an absolutely fantastic evening we had yesterday. The gig was, as expected and hoped for, awesome. Those boys really know how to produce the goods. The atmosphere built gradually as the numbers gathered after work hours before and during the support acts. Idlewild were nonplus but their fans appreciated the outing. Athlete who had the better slot of coming on second worked the crowd more successfully and I enjoyed hearing songs from their previous album (I haven’t been won over by Tourist yet). The weather couldn’t make up its mind if it was going to actually follow up on the rain that it threatened us with all day but eventually the clouds gave way to the setting sun and stayed that way.

The anticipation for the the main event was ready to explode just as Bono and friends made their way on stage. They played loads of tracks and managed to go further than the already brilliant live music with a dramatic and well produced light and video display. There was the plea for support of the G8 rallies, Live8 concerts and so on, as Bono wore a large Make Poverty History sash after playing their protest songs such as ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ and ‘Love and Peace’. The UN Declaration of Human Rights were projected on the huge screen and read out to massive support from the cheering thousands. In a call for peacefully cohabitation between religions the word CoeXisT (made up of an Islamic crescent moon, the Star of David and the Crucifix) was emblazoned on Bono’s bandana and again the huge screen. How can you not get on board with these guys?!

Personally I was struck by the presence of worship. I was expecting a few more Bible references or prayers to expand on the already highly spiritual lyrics, and so was surprised when we kept on noticing them. They seemed to be singing to God and leading the crowd in worship as much they were putting on a performance, maybe even more so.

If you can make it to any of the other tours then I recommend you get it sorted, now. If you haven’t got a ticket to these sold out events don’t worry, there is always eBay and touts (not that I support that profiteering system; I support anyone trying to get to these gigs).

U2 Vertigo Tour!

This weblog post comes live from the heart of the MCFC Sportcity Stadium. We are currently being entertained by the supporting acts, Idlewild and Athlete, while we await the main event. U2 live! C’mon!
