London Olympics 2012

Mobile post: Well done London on winning the honour of hosting the 2012 Olympic Games. I hope that this will benefit and regenerate the poorer areas of the UK. Hopefully Ultimate Frisbee will be an official IOC sport by then. Also, let’s hope that Jacques Chirac will not get in a big grump and upset Tony’s big support of the Make Poverty History campaign and that of climate action.

Rally on G8 in Gleneagles.

This mobile post is from a bus on the way to Auchterader, as near as the official protests can get to the start of the G8 meetings at Gleneagles. We are travelling up with the G8 Alternatives, a friendly and official group in correspondence with the Police. However, our progress has been halted by a Police road block on the A9, which is denying our right to protest. The legal team is at work and there is hope that a peaceful demonstration will be made as planned. It is probably due to a bunch of troublesome idiots who were reportedly rioting on the roads early this morning, Sir Bob called the violent anarchists a bunch of ‘w*****s!’. I am with a smaller group of Christian friends, in this large convoy of coaches, and we are hoping to encourage a peaceful and effective day. If you pray, please do. We are dressed in white as the marches can be quite colour-coded depending upon intent. Ours is peace and justice.

Human White Band

Another live, mobile weblog entry. We have just started our march around Edinburgh to form a human white band around the city centre. The march started at 12noon and has had circled the city for over 4 hours. An estimated rally of over 150′000 people have descended upon the Scottish capital to welcome the G8 leaders to town with the resounding demand to Make Poverty History. The day has been largely hosted in the Meadows, with a sun shining down on a celebration of united, peaceful activism. I’ve found a new Tearfund banner to carry! Loving it!
