I Heart Mac

I have spent the day in front of 5 new PC screens. Somehow I managed to stumble into the position of being the least ITC inept person in our office following recent staff changes.

After some protest from me I was informed that due to a force of hand we need to change over to a Windows OS. And eventually the news came that this meant losing the Apple hardware too.

Thanks to the recent ‘promotion’ to least inept the job of setting up these machines has fallen into my lap. What I have learnt from the day is that though setting up a pre-installed copy of XP and Office is painless enough, all that follows is faff, faff and frustration. What I have gained from the day is a reminder of the sheer wonder of Mac OS X and Apple machines, a renewed appreciation that I have access to them, and a greater determination to keep on saving for their slightly heavier but great value price tag.

I rage Windows PC.
I heart Apple Macintosh.

I Want One!

Stop drooling!Apple have unveiled the Intel powered replacement of the PPC iBook. The MacBook comes with some lovely little features especially with regard to design and, thanks to the Intel Core Duo chip, is pimped up to be 5x faster than the iBook G4.

I would prefer the 2GHz 80Gb black one! I imagine that I’m just one of millions of bloggers who are writing about the launch of the MacBook today. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the launch of the MacBook Pro earlier this year and that really told us what to expect when they would inevitably release their newest consumer notebook. But hey, thanks to Rosetta, we can run all our PPC apps on the Intel machines and, oh, they are so out-of-the-box ready to go, fast and sexy.

Adobe Creative Suite

I’m currently watching eBay trying to find a bargain on some Apple Mac software. I’m hoping to purchase a full legal version of Adobe Photoshop 7+ but preferably Adobe CS or CS2, which would include Photoshop along with other design packages.

It is easy to get hold of illegal, cracked software for, well, free. Whereas a new (legal!) copy of CS2 direct from Adobe would set me back over £800.

What looks like a good, practical plan is to buy a previously owned and older version of Photoshop on ebay for as cheap as possible. You can then purchase separate upgrades to either CS or CS2. Ending in the next day or so are a couple of brand new, sealed upgrades going for cheap to reasonable auction prices. The key is to avoid a bidding war by waiting until the dying moments of the auction before entering your maximum bid, supposedly.
