Gorton, here I come.

IN preparation for my stay in Gorton for the summer I thought that I would read up on the place on wikipedia:

“About the year 920 a battle took place between the invading Danes and the Saxons, when the former were routed on Winning Hill. The stream running through the township was discoloured with blood, hence the name Gore Brook, from which the town Gore Town (Gorton) is derived.”

24-2

We are currently doing 2 days of 24-hour prayer, in shifts of course, over at my boss’ house. It is bringing back numerous memories and a question I never did manage to answer: “Where is the line between discipline and religosity when it comes to filling up all the hours on the prayer rota?”

Elsewhere, some of you will be pleased, some dissappointed, and many nonplussed to hear the news that I have lost my beard; it just fell off on Easter Sunday and I didn’t see where it had gone until too late.

Pink Moon Rising

This evening we witnessed the lunar eclipse from the back yard. And as promised the moon turned red, well actually a shade of red that most of us would call pink. Having earlier stated that a red moon is usually “horrifically prophetic”, I have to admit that I’m not so sure about a pink one. I’m sure I’ll eventually catch tail of what people, I mean the very spiritual ones, are saying about this. I presume probably something about coming into a new season, oh yes of course, it’s called Spring.

When is Spring anyway? Tradition will tell us in the non-tropical northern hemisphere that Spring runs Feb/Mar/Apr, the meteorologists say Mar/Apr/May, and astronomers want to wait until the days have definately got longer in Apr/May/Jun. Bill Oddie would like you to join in with a public nature survey to spot the biological seasonal indicators, we’re talking fauna and flora here, like bumblebees and frogspawn.
